Ian Hudghton (Greens/EFA) − I voted against the Services Directive in 2006 because it was driven by an agenda of market liberalisation and privatisation. At the time those in the right, including the UK Tory and Labour Parties said we were wrong and that the Directive would stimulate the economy. Seven years on it is apparent that these claims were wrong. This report seems not to have learned any lessons and I accordingly voted against. Vital public services should remain publicly owned.
